The pills send me dreary
Eyes become heavy
Night terrors dance
Breaks my mind’s levee
The river runs wild
My life’s village floods
Is it all finished?
As outflows my blood

See the walls of this prison
Joy sucked from all life
The future seems dark
Faith sliced with a knife
Behind bars of trauma
I just lay there and cry
The cuts to my wrists
Will heal, I’ll not die

I hear the nurse coming
Whistling cheery, not glum
But the confection she brings
Is surely not fun
They say I am ill
That I’ll never be…

Watching Michael Neill’s video, ‘Why aren’t we awesomer?’ where he burst out laughing at the absurdity of the situation reminded me of a story from my childhood.

But my story is also a story of how Children can sometimes be much more compassionate than adults, and how a child tried to do something unexpected for me when he saw a perceived injustice and stood up to a teacher. I hope it provides some inspiration of hope

I was diagnosed with Cronic Fatigue Syndrome (M.E.) at age 9 along with my 2 brothers. So I spent, from that age and through…

Hope is the sunshine of the soul

Through wind and rain, it stays whole

Can you control the weather will stress?

Let it pass, come back to rest

Through hail and storm, the world survives

Peace returns, potential comes alive

Hope lights the way, all fear be gone

Radiates beauty, silence is heaven’s song

The so-called ego has been given many names and explanations throughout the centuries as humans have tried to explain that voice in our heads that is constantly analysing and judging everything in this world including us. It could even be argued that Lucifer and the Devil are in fact metaphors for this. It certainly does at times feel like the voice of the devil himself trying to deceive and trick us to ruin our lives and turn us away from our true selves and even drag us down to consciousness hell. …

Your eternal flame
Flickers to and fro
Ever burning
Whatever happens in the show
Even through storms
It burns ever bright
Never wavering
Can’t extinguish this light

Pure love
Resides deep within the soul
Is part of you
Keeps you whole
As you wander
Through the darkest nights
Your flame still flickers
Your life reignites

Trust that God
Still has your back
No matter what happens
Believe this fact
Your innate strength
Will get you through
When truth awakens
You’ll find your proof

Home is the space where inspiration ignites
The fountain of youth that baptises troubles and ills
The Kingdom inherited
Your right of passage the sages paint with words

Home is the chest that opens to all knowledge
Of truth and love
Birthed from silence deep within our soul
Before creation hired you to the show

The key all possess is forged from inside
Open the pearly gates to the Garden of Eden
Where all dis-ease is healed
Return home, claim what is yours

The wheels of progress turn very slow
You will it to go exponentially faster
Become stressed as you push harder and harder

As the deadline approaches you begin to panic
Predict consequences of another project failed
Believe your life will end, your family will starve

A man comes along, says there’s another way
Uncover your diamond that resides at your core
Chip away at the crap accumulated on top

It’s just a game that we have decided to play
With rules we designed we treat as the truth
That restrict all potential, cause us to lose hope

Stop using your…

Traverse City State Psychiatric Hospital, Michigan, picture by Andrew Johnson

As a society, we get told certain conditions and feelings are illnesses like they are bacteria or viruses invading the body. When we feel anxious or depressed we go to our GP to try to find help, they say for example, ‘so you have depression or anxiety, here take a pill.’

They almost become like sweets with more and more people prescribed. If you are feeling really bad then you are referred to a psychiatrist and then they do an assessment on you with many questions and tick boxes. From this they make an assessment and deem you as having…

Humpty Dumpty by Brandon Rodgers

I hear so many people describe themselves as being permanently broken or damaged.

It’s understandable that it can be something that can seem really true as many are given this impression by medical professionals. I heard a former psychiatric nurse of 30 years say in a talk that I went to that he had heard colleagues say to their patients that their diagnosis is just like having diabetes and that you will have to take medication for life. This isn’t the first time that I’ve heard of people being told similar things or that they would never recover. I had…

The snake slithers through the desert
It’s tongue flickering tasting the air
An eagle hovers hunting its prey
The snake senses something amiss

Its brain lights up, adrenaline pumping
The eagle’s too powerful, there’s no hope of escape
As panic takes hold the snake’s heart starts to race
The Eagle dives at hypersonic speed

The snake looks up, there’s no eagle in sight
Can just see clouds, serene and peaceful
Swore it heard a screech, fear became it’s jive
Confused it wonders ‘What’s created this fright?’

A voice replies, ‘I have given this gift’
To perceive your world, cause seismic…
